EMORY, Va. – Sophomore forward Tricia Jessee (Roanoke, Va. / Patrick Henry) scored two second-half goals to help lead the Washington and Lee women's soccer team to a 3-1 triumph over Emory & Henry on Wednesday afternoon at Fred Selfe Stadium to close out its regular season.
Senior midfielder Lauren Abraham (Richmond, Va. / Mills E. Godwin) started off the scoring with a tally in the 44th minute off of a corner kick taken by senior midfielder Haley Ward (Federal Way, Wash. / Federal Way). The Generals (13-1-1, 11-1) took the 1-0 lead into halftime over the Wasps (4-13, 3-9).
Emory & Henry responded just 3:30 into the second-half when senior midfielder Erica Merriman netted the Wasps' lone goal off of an assist from senior forward Bethany Myer.
Jessee scored the Generals' second goal when she beat first-year goalkeeper Kayla Wright with an assist from senior midfielder Holley Beasley (Virginia Beach, Va. / Norfolk Academy) in the 55th minute. She then tallied her 11th goal of the season at the 67:40 mark off of an assist from junior midfielder Becca Dunn (Houston, Texas / Memorial).
Junior keeper Addie Healy (Waterford, Va. / Woodgrove) saw all 90 minutes in goal and had one save. Wright also played the entire match in net and registered 11 saves.
For the game, the Generals out-shot the Wasps, 24-3, and held the edge in corner kicks, 12-2.
W&L will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Randolph-Macon in the ODAC Women's Soccer Tournament quarterfinals. The Generals will be the No. 2 seed, while Randolph-Macon will be the seventh seed.
