VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Junior midfielder Holley Beasley (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) netted the game-winning goal with 31 seconds left in double overtime to lift the Washington and Lee women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday.
With 109:29 on the clock, Beasley won a battle for the ball in the Marlins' (6-2-2, 3-1 ODAC) box. Her shot from five-yards out on the left side found the back of the net to give W&L (8-1-0, 4-0-0 ODAC) the win. It was Beasley's fourth goal of the season and her second game-winning goal. She has registered a goal in three straight games.
Sophomore Addie Healy (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove) played the full 109:31 at goalkeeper for the Generals and made four saves, including one in the first overtime. First-year Megan Gerhart stopped three shots for VWC before allowing the game winner.
Both teams finished with 11 shots. The Generals recorded four shots on goal with first-year midfielder Tricia Jessee (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) leading with three. The Marlins totaled seven corner kicks in the contest, with W&L taking three.
W&L pushed its win streak to six games and next plays at Hollins on Tuesday at 4:00 pm.
