LEXINGTON, Va. – Washington and Lee women's soccer took advantage of two goals in the first half en route to a 2-0 victory over Eastern Mennonite on Saturday afternoon in Harrisonburg, Va.
Junior forward Katherine Rush (Cornelius, N.C./Providence Day School) recorded the contest's first goal with a tally in the 32nd minute off an assist by first-year Katie Clemmons (Phoenix, Ariz./Chaparral) to bring the score to 1-0. At the 34:33 mark, first-year forward Tricia Jessee (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) netted her first goal as a General after she received a pass from junior midfielder Holley Beasley (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) and sent the ball past the EMU goalkeeper to give W&L a 2-0 lead at the half.
W&L tallied 10 shots in the second half, but could not capitalize as the game ended with a score of 2-0 in the Generals favor.
For the game, the Generals outshot the Royals 25-1 and held 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
In goal for the Blue and White was sophomore Addie Healy (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove), who collected the shutout. Rebecca Borg suffered the loss for the Royals, finishing with five saves.
The Generals return to action on Tuesday, September 17th, playing host to Southern Virginia for a 4:00 pm contest.
