LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's soccer team took advantage of a 22-6 shooting edge to secure a 2-1 victory over Dallas on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.
Junior defender Lauren Abraham (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) started off the scoring just nine minutes into the game with a header off a junior midfielder Haley Ward (Federal Way, Wash./Federal Way) corner kick to give the Generals a 1-0 lead.
Dallas (0-1) tied the score at 1-1 with a goal late in the second half on a tally by Emily Rogers (San Antonio, Texas/MacArthur). Nicole Johnson (San Antonio, Texas/Pope John Paul XXIII) recorded the assist with a long pass up the field to free Rogers.
W&L (2-0) answered just five minutes later when junior midfielder Katie Rossi (Wyoming, Del./Caesar Rodney) secured a pass from Holley Beasley (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) and sent the ball past the UD goalie for the eventual game-winner.
For the game, W&L held an advantage in both shots (22-6) and corner kicks (7-2).
Sophomore goalkeeper Addie Healy (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove) played all 90 minutes and finished with two saves. Brigid Hasson (Fairfax, Va./Trinity School at Meadow View) also played the entirety for the Crusaders, finishing with five saves.
The Generals return to action on September 7th, when they play Rowan at the Mary Washington Tournament. The match is set to start at 3:00 pm.
