Three Generals Recognized By ODAC
FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its Players of the Week for the week ending October 21 and Washington and Lee had three players honored.
Junior outside hitter M.A. Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's) was named the Volleyball Player of the Week, senior Izzy Brassfield (Greensboro, N.C./Greensboro Day School) was tabbed the Swimmer of the Week and sophomore forward Katherine Rush (Cornelius, N.C./Providence Day School) was selected the Women's Soccer Player of the Week.
Boles garnered the honor for the second-straight week, and the third time this season, after leading the Generals to a 3-0 week in ODAC action. She registered a total of 59 kills, 34 digs and five service aces, including her 13th double-double of the season with 20 kills and 17 digs in a 3-0 win at Hollins on Friday. She tallied 20 kills, eight digs and two service aces in a 3-1 victory at Roanoke on Friday, and notched 19 kills, nine digs and two service aces in a 3-0 defeat of Guilford on Wednesday.
The volleyball team travels to Bridgewater on Wednesday for its final regular-season conference match at 6:30 pm.
Brassfield collected Swimmer of the Week laurels after posting five first-place performances over the weekend. In a 133-129 win over Mary Washington on Friday, Brassfield won the 50 free and 100 free, clocking in at 25.41 and 55.41, respectively. She also swam a leg for the first-place finishing 200 free relay that touched in at 1:41.39. At the ODAC Relays on Saturday, Brassfield captured two more wins as a member of the 200 medley relay (1:55.90) and 200 free relay (1:43.90), helping W&L take first out of nine teams with 454 total points.
The swimming team returns to the pool on Saturday, when it hosts Randolph-Macon, set to begin at 1:00 pm.
In a 2-0 week, Rush led the Generals in scoring with three goals and an assist, including the game-winning tally on Saturday to give W&L a 1-0 win over Randolph-Macon. On Wednesday, Rush notched two goals and an assist as the Generals took down Guilford, 6-0.
The women's soccer team closes out its regular-season contests on Wednesday, when it hosts Sweet Briar at 4:00 pm.
