LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's soccer team continued its strong start in ODAC action with a 9-0 victory over Randolph Saturday afternoon at WildCat Stadium.
With the win, the Generals improve to 4-1 (2-0 ODAC) on the season, while the WildCats dropped to 4-2 (0-2 ODAC) for the year.
Just 1:10 into the game, sophomore midfielder Lauren Abraham (Richmond, Va./Mills E. Goodwin) netted the first goal for W&L, bringing the early 1-0 lead.
Six more players scored for the Blue and White in the opening half, including a pair of goals by first-year midfielder Becca Dunn (Houston, Texas/Memorial). With goals by junior midfielder Alexis Blight (Columbia Md./McDonogh), sophomore forwards Katherine Rush (Cornelius, N.C./Providence Day School) and KJ Lancaster (Atlanta, Ga./Atlanta International), and sophomore midfielders Holley Beasley (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) and Haley Ward (Federal Way, Wash./Federal Way), the Generals entered halftime with an 8-0 advantage.
Recording her first points as a General, first-year midfielder Mary Beth Smith (Spring City, Pa./Agnes Irwin) kicked in the ninth goal for W&L at the 66:33 mark. W&L continued to hold off Randolph in the rest of the second period and cruised to the win.
Splitting time in net for the Blue and White was first-year Addie Healy (Waterford, Va./Woodgrove) and sophomore Kingsley Schroeder (Dayton, Ohio/Westminster School). Healy notched one save in the first 45:00 of play, while Schroeder saw no shots on goal during the second half.
Protecting the net for the WildCats was senior Ashley Stevens (Leicester, Mass./Saint Peter-Marian), who tallied 18 shots and nine goals-against while playing the entire game.
W&L returns to the field when it travels to Emory & Henry on Tuesday for a 5:30 pm contest.
