BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Bridgewater College held the Washington and Lee women's soccer team scoreless as it earned a 3-0 victory over the Generals on Saturday afternoon at Jopson Field.
BC netted its first goal of the match in the 15th minute as Abby Dehoff registered an unassisted tally to put the Eagles (13-4, 8-3 ODAC) up 1-0. Despite outshooting the home team 11-4 over the opening half, the Generals (12-3-2, 7-2-2 ODAC) were unable to capitalize, and the scoreboard remained at 1-0 in favor of BC heading into the half.
Bridgewater added two more goals in the second half, with Sarah Conner tallying an unassisted goal in the 54th minute and Meghan Groos collecting a pass from Anna Theisen in the 58th minute, securing the final 3-0 decision.
For the match, W&L outshot BC, 14-12, and also held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.
In net, senior Emily Leary (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) played all 90:00, allowing three goals while stopping three shots. BC keepers Cari Hensley and Shauna Manovich shared time in net, with Hensley earning the win after playing 85:02 and registering eight saves. Manovich played the final 4:58 and did not face a shot.
W&L returns to action next Saturday in the opening round of the ODAC women's soccer tournament. Opponent and gametime are TBD.
