HOLLINS, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's soccer team registered all of its offense in the first half as it went on to defeat Hollins, 3-0, on Tuesday afternoon at Moody Field.
Just 5:30 seconds into the contest, first-year midfielder Holley Beasley (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) netted her ninth goal of the season off an assist from classmate Emily Scott (Port Murray, N.J./West Morris Central), giving the Generals (9-1-1, 5-0-1 ODAC) a 1-0 lead. W&L's leading scorer first-year midfielder Katherine Rush (Cornelius, N.C./Providence Day School) then added an unassisted marker off a rebound in the 12th minute to move the Generals' lead to 2-0.
The final tally of the match came from senior forward Allie Espina (Gaithersburg, Md./Good Counsel), who netted an unassisted goal in the 44th minute, giving the Generals a 3-0 lead going into the break. W&L outshot HU, 15-1, in the first half, and also led the home team in corner kicks, 6-0.
Despite outshooting Hollins, 8-1, in the second half, the Generals were unable to dent the scoring column again, as they held on for the final 3-0 decision to remain unbeaten in ODAC action.
For the game, W&L controlled the shot (23-2) and corner kick (8-0) counts.
Senior keeper Emily Leary (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) played the entirety in net, stopping one shot. HU netminder Kristen Norkus also played the duration, recording seven saves.
The Generals return to action on Saturday, hosting ODAC leader Lynchburg College at 11:00 am.
