LEXINGTON, Va. – Washington and Lee first-years Katherine Rush (Cornelius, N.C./Providence Day School) and Madeline Forrestel (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville) netted two goals apiece as the women's soccer team cruised to a 6-0 victory over Southern Virginia University on Friday afternoon at Watt Field.
Rush put the Generals (7-1-1) up 1-0 early, collecting a rebound off of SVU sophomore keeper Briar Sands (Lehi, Utah/Lehi) in the 5th minute. Just over ten minutes later, Forrestel added her first goal of the match, settling a cross from senior midfielder Dory Blackey (Versailles, Ky./Sayre School) for a 2-0 advantage.
Rush added her second goal of the contest and 10th of the season in the 29th minute to put W&L up, 3-0, where the scoreboard remained going into the half.
Forrestel netted her second goal of the match in the 55th minute, and the Generals also received goals from junior Alex Todd (New Orleans, La./Isidore Newman School) and first-year Julia Lancaster (Atlanta, Ga./Atlanta International) as they cruised to the 6-0 non-conference win.
In net, senior Emily Leary (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) played all 90:00, recording one save and her eighth shutout on the season. SVU keepers Sands and first-year Kenzie Lundquist (Alpine, Utah/Lone Peak) shared time in net. Sands took the loss, playing in 75:45 and stopping 12 shots. Lundquist recorded 14:15 with three saves.
The Generals return to action tomorrow, traveling to Sweet Briar for a noon affair.
