HARRISONBURG, Va. – Five different Generals netted a goal as the Washington and Lee women's soccer team topped Eastern Mennonite, 5-0, on Saturday afternoon at the EMU Turf Field.
After 25 scoreless minutes to open the contest, the W&L offense struck in rapid fashion, scoring two goals in just under two minutes. Senior defender Heather Deisher (Cape Girardeau, Mo./Cape Central) headed the ball off a corner kick from junior Ainsley Daigle (Lafayette, La./Episcopal School of Acadiana), sending it past EMU keeper Jenni Beck in the 27th minute. First-year Holley Beasley (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Acadmey) added her sixth goal of the season in the 29th minute, settling a pass from classmate Katherine Rush (Cornelius, N.C./Providence Day School), giving the Generals a 2-0 advantage, which they took into halftime.
W&L maintained its offensive pace in the second half, as Daigle netted her first goal of the season off a pass from Rush to increase the lead to 3-0 at the 52:28 mark of the match. Rush added a goal of her own in the 67th minute, and senior defender Alex Todd (New Orleans, La./Isidore Newman) netted the Generals' final goal of the match in the 85th minute as W&L cruised to the 5-0 victory.
In net, senior Emily Leary (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) played the entirety, recording her sixth shutout of the season. Beck also played all 90:00 for EMU, recording six saves.
As a team, W&L dominated EMU in both shots (28-1) and corner kicks (9-1).
The Generals return to action on Wednesday, as they host Roanoke College at Watt Field with a 4:00 pm start.
