GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Washington and Lee first-year midfielder Holley Beasley (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) netted two goals in the first half to help lead the women's soccer team to a 4-0 triumph over Greensboro College on Sunday afternoon.
Beasley started the scoring for the Generals (3-1-1) in the 16th minute, as she collected a rebound and sent the ball past GC keeper Shireen Unvala for a 1-0 lead. Her second goal came late in the opening stanza after she headed a corner kick from senior defender Page Minton (Bowling Green, Ky./Bowling Green) into the net, giving the Generals a 2-0 lead with 41:12 on the clock, a lead they took into the break.
In the second half, first-year midfielder Katie Rossi (Wyoming, Del./Caesar Rodney) added a goal of her own in the 65th minute off an assist from classmate Emily Scott (Port Murray, N.J./West Morris Central), and senior midfielder Dory Blackey (Versailles, Ky./Sayre School) netted her first goal of the season after scoring off a cross from senior forward Kat Barnes (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park) for the final 4-0 victory.
For the game, W&L dominated the Pride in shots (21-1) and corner kicks (7-2).
Senior keeper Emily Leary (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) played all 90:00, recording one save. Unvala also played the entire contest for Greensboro, stopping eight shots.
The Generals return to action on Wednesday as they host Randolph College for a 4:30 pm match at Watt Field.
