LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee men's and
women's soccer squads were both recipients of the National Soccer
Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for the
2009-10 academic year, which was announced on Monday.
Washington and Lee was one of just 126 universities that had both its men's and women's programs recognized. Overall, 630 squads (194 men, 436 women) nationwide posted a team grade-point average of 3.0 or above to receive the honor. You can view the complete listing here.
This is the eighth year in a row the women's team was recognized, after posting a team grade-point average of 3.52. The men collected the honor for the fourth time in program history after posting a 3.21 team grade-point average.
The women's soccer team finished its 2010 season with a 10-6-2 record, advancing to the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament. The men also advanced to the semifinals of the conference tourney, concluding play with an 8-7-2 overall mark.
