W&L Women's Soccer Felled by Bridgewater, 1-0
LEXINGTON, Va. – Bridgewater College sophomore midfielder Abby Dehoff (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) connected on a penalty kick in the 68th minute as the Washington and Lee women's soccer team fell to the Eagles, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.
Bridgewater (9-7-1, 8-3 ODAC) was awarded the penalty kick after an Eagle was taken down in the box. Dehoff took the shot, sending it past W&L (8-5-2, 6-3-1 ODAC) junior keeper Emily Leary (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings), securing the 1-0 conference victory for BC.
W&L had several scoring opportunities in the contest, including an early shot from junior forward Allie Espina (Gaithersburg, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) that hit the crossbar. However, the Generals were not able to find the net in 90 minutes of play, despite leading BC in shots, 10-5.
Leary played all 90:00 for W&L, recording one save. BC junior keeper Shauna Manovich (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) also played the duration, stopping two shots.
The Generals return to action for their final regular-season contest as they travel to Randolph College for a 6:00 pm contest on Tuesday.
