ASHLAND, Va. – Washington and Lee sophomore midfielder Ainsley Daigle (Lafayette, La./Episcopal School of Acadiana) recorded two goals, including the game winner with just under eight minutes remaining, as the Washington and Lee women's soccer team defeated Randolph-Macon, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon in Ashland.
Randolph-Macon (6-5-3, 3-3-3 ODAC) went on the board first when forward Erin Hauser recorded a goal in the 20th minute off an assist from defender Megan Calabrese to put the Yellow Jackets up, 1-0. However, Daigle connected on a penalty kick in the 43rd minute to knot the game at 1-1 going into the half.
R-MC again struck first in the second half with an unassisted goal from midfielder Ashley Malinowski to give the Yellow Jackets a 2-1 advantage with just over 39 minutes remaining in the contest. W&L's (7-4-1, 5-2-1 ODAC) first-year forward Jasmine Soo (Charleston, W.Va./Culver Academies) responded in the 66th minute with an unassisted tally of her own to knot the score at 2-2. Daigle put the Generals ahead for good, as she collected her second goal of the match off a free kick in the 83rd minute to secure the 3-2 victory for W&L.
For the contest, the Generals led the Yellow Jackets in both
shots, 14-9, and corner kicks, 6-4.
Junior Keeper Emily Leary (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) played all 90:00 for W&L, allowing two goals while stopping two shots. R-MC keeper China Bradley also played the duration, allowing three goals and recording five saves.
The Generals return to action tomorrow as they travel to face St. Mary's (Md.) for a 2:00 pm contest.
