LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's soccer team played Virginia Wesleyan to a 0-0 double-overtime draw in ODAC action on Wednesday afternoon at Watt Field.
The Generals (6-4-1, 4-2-1) and Marlins (8-3-3, 6-1-1) could not find the net through 110 minutes of action for the fourth time in the last seven meetings in the series.
Virginia Wesleyan held an 18-2 advantage in shots, but sent just six shots on goal in the contest. The Marlins also held an 8-3 edge in corner kicks.
The game's best scoring opportunity came just under six minutes into the contest when VWC first-year forward Danielle Stephens (Round Hill, Va./Loudoun Valley) lined up a deflected ball and sent it towards an open goal. However, Washington and Lee junior defender Alex Todd (New Orleans, La./Isidore Newman School) was there to clear the shot away and preserve the shutout.
Junior goalkeeper Emily Leary (Cincinnati, Ohio/King's) also helped W&L achieve its seventh shutout of the season by posting five saves in 110 minutes of action. Junior Bethany Bayles (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park) played the duration in goal for the Marlins and did not face a shot on goal.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it travels to Randolph-Macon for a 1:00 pm contest.
