W&L Women's Soccer Nationally Ranked
LEXINGTON, Va. – The National
Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) released its final
regular-season rankings on Tuesday and Washington and Lee finished
the regular season 10th in the Division III poll.
On the strength of a 2-1 win over Lynchburg and a 0-0 draw against
Virginia Wesleyan in the title game, the Generals jumped to the top
ranking in the South Region and No. 10 nationally. It is the
first time W&L has been ranked in the Top 10 nationally since
the end of the 2006 season.
W&L finished the season with a 16-1-3 record and claimed its
third Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) title in school
history by advancing past Virginia Wesleyan on penalty kicks, 3-2.
With the conference championship, the Generals received an automatic bid to the NCAA D III Women’s Soccer Tournament, where they will face Christopher Newport on Saturday at Watt Field. Game time is slated for 11:00 am.
