W&L Women's Soccer Ties Guilford, 1-1, in 2OT
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior forward Maggie Sutherland
(Pittsburgh, Pa./Sewickley Academy) would record a goal for the
Washington and Lee women’s soccer team but it would not be
enough as they tied Guilford, 1-1, in double-overtime on Saturday
evening at Armfield Athletic Center.
The Generals (12-1-2, 8-0-2 ODAC) struck first, with Sutherland finding the net off a header from a corner kick taken by sophomore Page Minton (Bowling Green, Ky./Bowling Green) in the 35th minute, as the Generals took a 1-0 lead into the half. Guilford (7-10-1, 4-5-1 ODAC) would tie the game in the 71st minute off a goal from Bri Eilman, sending the game to extra minutes, where neither team was able to record a goal.
W&L led Guilford in both shots, 33-4, and corner kicks, 13-0.
Sophomore goalie Emily Leary (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) played all 110:00 in net, allowing one goal while recording two saves. Guilford goalie Kat Adams also played the duration, allowing one goal and recording 13 saves.
The Generals take to the field Sunday as they travel to Ferrum for a 2:00 pm match.
