LEXINGTON, Va.- Washington and Lee women’s soccer team
recorded two goals in the second half as they went on to defeat
N.C. Wesleyan, 3-0, at Watt Field on Thursday afternoon.
First-year midfielder Katie Howard (Atherton, Calif./Menlo School) recorded her fifth goal of the season off a helper from sophomore forward Allie Espina (Gaithersburg, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) in the 16th minute to give the Generals (10-1-1, 7-0-1 ODAC) a 1-0 lead at the half.
Espina would add a goal of her own in the 58th minute off an assist from senior midfielder Roz Klann (Denver, Colo./George Washington) and first-year midfielder Bess Ruff (Tupelo, Miss./Tupelo) would net an unassisted marker in the 89th minute to secure the 3-0 victory over the Battling Bishops (3-9, 1-3 USA South).
Sophomore goalie Emily Leary (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) played all 90:00 in net for the Generals, recording one save en route to the shutout. N.C. Wesleyan first-year goalie Tiina Rastiola (Siilinjärvi, Finland/Siilinjärven Lukio) also played the duration, allowing three goals while recording nine saves.
The Generals return to action Monday as they remain at Watt Field to face Transylvania. The start time is slated for 4:00 pm.
