W&L Women's Soccer Holds Off Roanoke, 1-0

SALEM, Va.— First-year Katie Howard (Atherton, Calif./Menlo School) recorded the lone goal for the Washington and Lee women’s soccer team as they went on to defeat Roanoke 1-0 on Wednesday evening at Kerr Stadium.

The game remained closely contested through most of the first half until Howard netted her goal in the 41st minute, which was enough for the Generals (6-1, 4-0 ODAC) to claim the victory over the Maroons (7-3, 3-1 ODAC).

Sophomore goalie Emily Leary (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) played the duration in net, recording one save and earning the shutout. Roanoke goalie Lindsay Kooiman also played the entirety, allowing one goal while recording seven saves.

The Generals return to action Saturday as they travel to Randolph-Macon for a noon match.
