W&L Women's Soccer Defeats Hollins, 6-0
ROANOKE, Va. – The Washington and Lee women’s soccer
team improved to 5-0 on the season as they defeated Hollins
University, 6-0, on Tuesday evening at Moody Field.
Junior Laura Yungmeyer (Kingsport, Tenn./Dobyns Bennett) put the Generals (5-0, 2-0 ODAC) on the board in the 34th minute off an assist from sophomore Allie Espina (Gaithersburg, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel), the only goal of the first half.
The Generals would go on to add five goals in the second half, including two from first-year Ainsley Daigle (Lafayette, La./Episcopal School of Acadiana). Daigle picked up where she left off last week, recording two goals, one in the 79th minute and another in the 89th minute of the match.
Sophomore goalie Emily Leary (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) played all 90 minutes in net, recording the shutout and two saves. Hollins (2-4-1, 1-3 ODAC) goalie Kristen Norkus also played the duration, allowing six goals and recording 15 saves.
The women’s soccer team will return to action Saturday as they travel to Grantham, Pa. to face #1 Messiah College with a 1:00 pm start.
