W&L Women's Soccer Team Defeats Methodist University, 2-0
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Sophomore forward
Allie Espina (Gaithersburg, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) recorded
two goals to lead the Washington and Lee women’s soccer team
to a 2-0 victory over Methodist University at the Methodist
University Soccer for a Cure Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
Espina put the Generals (2-0) on the board late in the first half,
netting her first goal off an assist from first-year midfielder
Ainsley Daigle (Lafayette, La./Episcopal School of Acadiana) in the
36th minute. She would record her second goal of the match in the
55th minute of the second half off a helper from sophomore forward
Kat Barnes (Charlotte, N.C./Myers Park).
Sophomore netminder Emily Leary (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) played
all 90 minutes in net and recorded three saves en route to posting
the shutout. Methodist (1-4) goalie Kasey Nichols also played the
duration, allowing two goals and recording four saves.
The Generals return home Wednesday to open its ODAC season against
Sweet Briar. The start time is 5:00 pm.
