Ryan Riggs is in his third season as assistant wrestling coach at Washington and Lee University. In his first two seasons, he helped mentor four W&L wrestlers that ended up placing at the Centennial Conference Championships.
Riggs came to W&L from Heidelberg University, where he served as an assistant coach from 2009-11. Last year, he helped Heidelberg to a runner-up finish at the OAC Championships, while also guiding three wrestlers to the NCAA Championships. Four wrestlers earned NWCA Scholar All-America honors, while the team ranked 15th in Division III in Team GPA en route to earning the NWCA Team Scholar Award.
Riggs has also served as an assistant at Massillion Perry High School (2008-09) and is the founder and head coach of the Perry Wrestling Club. Additionally, he has served as the coach for the Ohio Freestyle & Greco-Roman Junior & Cadet National Team since 2007, personally coaching six All-America athletes and a National Champion.
Riggs was a two-year starter for the wrestling team at Cleveland State University, serving as a team captain for his senior season. He graduated in 2009 with a bachelor of arts in studio art with a concentration in drawing. Riggs later earned a master of arts in education from Heidelberg in 2011.
