CLEVELAND, Ohio – The NCAA has released the 18-man brackets for the Division III wrestling championship to be held on Friday and Saturday at the Cleveland Public Auditorium in Cleveland, Ohio.
Washington and Lee junior 141-pounder Zach Bylykbashi (Southington, Conn. / Southington) will compete at the NCAA Championship after qualifying by winning his weight class at the NCAA Southeast Regional on February 23-24.
Bylykbashi, who owns a 28-8 record, will begin his tournament on Friday morning against the top seed in the 141-pound bracket, Brett Kaliner of Stevens. Bylykbashi and Kaliner have met twice previously this season, with Kaliner winning both matches. He notched a 7-1 win over Bylykbashi in a dual match on February 3 and then posted an 8-4 decision in the Centennial Conference Championship match on February 10. Kaliner carries a 37-2 record into the opening round of the championship.
Bylykbashi will be competing at the NCAA National Championship for the second straight season. Last year, he finished with a 2-2 record at nationals, coming up one win shy of earning All-America honors at 133 pounds.
Friday's opening session will begin at 11:00 am, with the second session beginning at 6:00 pm. The eight All-Americans in each bracket will be determined by the end of Friday's action.
Saturday's championship semifinals are at 10:00 am and include third-, fifth- and seventh-place matches. The finals are set for 7:00 pm.
