Bylykbashi and Scott Set to Compete at NCAA Wrestling Championships

LaCROSSE, Wis. – The NCAA has released the 18-man brackets for the Division III wrestling championship to be held on Friday and Saturday at the LaCrosse Center in LaCrosse, Wis.

Washington and Lee sophomore 133-pounder Zach Bylykbashi (Southington, Conn. / Southington) and first-year 165-pounder Joe Scott (Efland, N.C. / Orange) will both open the championship on Friday.

Bylykbashi, who owns a 24-4 record, will begin his championship against Jared Braun (24-7) of Elmhurst College.  Bylykbashi finished third in the East Region, while Braun was the second-place finisher in the Midwest Region.  Both are ranked in the latest NWCA 133-pound rankings.  Braun is sixth, while Bylykbashi is 10th.  The winner of the match will then take on sixth-seeded Maverick Passaro of SUNY Cortland.  Passaro claims a 13-1 overall record after placing second in the Northeast Regional.

Scott will open with fourth-seeded Larry Cannon of Messiah College on Friday morning.  He holds a 20-7 overall record after winning the 165-pound weight class at the East Regional, W&L's first-ever regional champion.  Cannon carries a 34-6 overall record and is ranked sixth in the weight class after claiming the 165-pound bracket at the Mideast Regional.  He finished fourth at last year's NCAA Championship to earn All-America honors.

Friday's opening session will begin at 11:00 am, with the second session beginning at 6:00 pm.  The eight All-Americans in each bracket will be determined by the end of Friday's action.

Saturday's championship semifinals are at 10:00 am and include third-, fifth- and seventh-place matches. The finals are set for 7:00 pm.
