W&L Wrestling Breezes Past Southern Virginia, 36-9

BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Washington and Lee wrestling team notched a 36-9 victory at Southern Virginia on Friday evening, recording its most wins in a season since the 2007-08 campaign.

The Generals are now 7-6 overall, the most wins for a season in the coaching tenure of Nathan Shearer (six seasons) and matching the 2007-08 team that went 7-5 overall.

W&L jumped out to a quick 18-0 lead after sophomore 133-pounder Zach Bylykbashi (Southington, Conn. / Southington) posted a win by fall in just 35 seconds and receiving forfeits at 141 and 149 pounds.  The Generals dropped matches at 157 and 165 pounds, but took the remaining four weight classes to earn the victory.

First-year Andrew Taylor (Atlanta, Ga. / Westminster) registered a pin of Rhett Honeycutt (5:37) at 174 pounds and classmate Iszak Morgan (Portage, Ind. / Portage) recorded a 5-0 decision over Matthew Rohrdanz at 184 pounds.  First-year Zach Francis (Southlake, Texas / Southlake Carroll) logged a win by fall over Caleb West (2:42) at 197 pounds and junior Matt Kaminer (Hewlett, N.Y. / George W. Hewlett) finished things off with a 5-0 victory over Alex Brunner at 285 pounds.
