Centennial Conference Releases Wrestling Preseason Coaches Poll
LANCASTER, Pa. – The Centennial Conference released its 2013-14 preseason wrestling coaches poll on Thursday and Washington and Lee was picked to finish eighth out of the nine conference wrestling institutions.
Ursinus College received six first-place votes and 60 total points to top the poll, followed by NYU (54) and Johns Hopkins (54), who both tied for second. NYU received two first-place votes, while the Blue Jays garnered the final first-place vote.
Stevens (42) was picked fourth as was followed by the Merchant Marines (34), McDaniel (31), Gettysburg (24), W&L (18) and Muhlenberg (8).
W&L returns several key wrestlers from last season's team that finished 2-13 overall and 2-6 in league matches. Among the top returnees is senior captain Dan Igel (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. / Bolles School), who finished 12-8 overall as a 157-pounder.
Junior Conor Duffey (Boxford, Mass. / Brooks School) and sophomores Grant Cokeley (Charleston, W.Va. / George Washington), Zac Richey (Swoope, Va. / Buffalo Gap) and Ron Tassoni (Media, Pa. / Haverford School) all also return as key contributors from last season.
Duffey notched a 13-9 mark at 149 pounds, while Cokeley had a team-best 15 wins (15-17) at 285 pounds during his rookie campaign. Richey went 8-20 at 165 pounds and Tassoni posted a 13-18 record at 174 pounds.
Washington and Lee opens its 2013-14 campaign on November 9 when it competes in the Washington & Jefferson Invitational.
