W&L Wrestling Upended at George Mason, 31-9
FAIRFAX, Va. — In its first dual match of the season, the Washington and Lee wrestling team lost at George Mason on Sunday, 31-9.
The Patriots (1-3) took the early lead at 125, but the Generals (0-1) pulled to within one (4-3) with first-year Tyler Kaelin's (Crestwood, Ky./Oldham County) 4-3 victory over sophomore Zachary Isenhour at 133.
The hosts earned decisions in the next three weight classes, but first-year Zac Richey (Swoope, Va./Buffalo Gap) pulled W&L within 10 (16-6) with a 4-3 decision over first-year Kenton Perez. After a win at 174 for the Patriots, sophomore Zan Reed (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) secured a 5-2 decision over sophomore D.J. Dwyer at 184.
George Mason won the final two weight classes by fall to secure the 31-9 victory.
The Generals return to competition on December 1 at the Ohio Northern Invitational.
