Campbell and Dennis Honored by the Centennial Conference
LANCASTER, Pa. – Washington and Lee senior wrestlers Sam Campbell (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) and David Dennis (Sherman, W.Va./Ravenswood) were both honored by the Centennial Conference on Wednesday afternoon.
Campbell was named to the conference's 2012 Winter Academic Honor Roll, while Dennis received honorable mention all-conference honors.
Campbell was one of 275 winter athletes honored after having participated in more than 50 percent of the team's contests and carrying a cumulative GPA of 3.40 or higher.
A politics and English double-major, Campbell was one of 15 wrestlers recognized on the team after he logged a 25-8 overall record, tying the school record for wins in a season. He placed third in the 133-pound weight class at the 2012 Centennial Conference championships and he finished his stellar career ranked second all-time at W&L with 73 victories (73-34).
Dennis received Honorable Mention All-Centennial Conference honors after finishing as the runner-up in the 157-pound weight class at the conference championship event. He completed his senior season with a 23-6 overall record and tied the school record for pins in a season (11). He finished his outstanding career ranked fourth all-time in wins at W&L with a 71-30 career record. His 33 career pins are the best mark in school history.
Both Campbell and Dennis were honored as National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-Americans following the 2010 season and Campbell was a Capital One Third Team Academic All-America honoree in 2011.
As a team, Washington and Lee finished eighth overall at the Centennial Conference Championships.
