GRANTHAM, Pa. -- The Washington and Lee wrestling team finished 12th of 13 teams at the Petrofes Invitational hosted by Messiah College on Friday and Saturday.
The Generals totaled 27.5 team points to finish ahead of Centennial Conference-rival Muhlenberg College, who notched 21.5 points. Wilkes University claimed the team title with 162.5 points and was followed by Mt. Union (147), Messiah (136.5), Springfield (127), McDaniel (84), Lycoming (84), Bridgewater State (78), Johns Hopkins (76.5), Oneonta (68.5), Ursinus (60) and Gettysburg (36).
Individually for W&L, junior 165-pounder David Dennis (Sherman, W.Va./Ravenswood) and senior 157-pounder Keith Jaworski (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) both finished in sixth place in their respective weight classes.
Dennis fell to top-seeded Matt Cross of Messiah, 4-0, in the semifinals, then dropped matches in the consolation bracket to third-seeded Benjamin Marich of Wilkes (5-3) and sixth-seeded Ethan Raymond of Bridgewater State (4-2).
Jaworski began the second day of competition with a 3-1 win over eighth-seeded Josh Cintron of Mount Union in the consolation quarterfinals, but fell to third-seeded Nathan White of Wilkes, 6-2. His tournament ended with a 5-2 loss to fifth-seeded Shane Everett of Wilkes, 5-2.
The Generals will return to action on Wednesday as they host Southern Virginia for a 7:00 pm dual match in Doremus Gymnasium.
