COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Washington and Lee wrestling team opened its 2010-11 campaign on Saturday morning at the Ursinus College Fall Brawl, with only individuals placing.
The Generals had three wrestlers place in their respective weight classes, including first-year Eric Fessel (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Prep) at 141 pounds, senior Keith Jaworski (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) at 157 pounds and first-year Jordan Yost (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) in the 197 pound class.
Yost went a perfect 4-0 to lead the Generals, with his first two triumphs coming by fall. In the first round he defeated Joe Shields from Penn State DuBois, then went on to top Ricky Cordero from TCNJ and Phillip Landis from Elizabethtown to advance to the finals. Yost was victorious over William Yeo from McDaniel with a 3-0 decision to claim the 197-pound championship.
Fessel defeated Penn State DuBois' Garrett Zarecky, Ursinus' Elisha Gaylor, 4-2, and University of Maryland's Bradley Molina by fall. He was then pinned by Quentin Leadbeter from Naval Academy Prep in the championship match to take second place and finish the day at 3-1.
At 157 pounds, Jaworski topped Torin Lehman (McDaniel) in a 3-1 decision, Ian Hest (Elizabethtown) with a 4-1 decision and Kyle Packer (TCNJ) by a 3-1 decision to advance to the championship match, where he fell to Maryland's Domenic Derobertis, 3-1, to finish the day with a 3-1 mark.
