MANHEIM, Pa. – The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced its 2009-2010 Division III Scholar All-Americans on Thursday and Washington and Lee University had three student-athletes honored.
Sophomores Sam Campbell (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier), David Dennis (Sherman, W.Va./Ravenswood) and Ben Ersing (Beverly, Mass./St. Mark’s) were all among the 145 NCAA Division III wrestlers to achieve the award.
An English and politics double-major, Campbell competed at 141 pounds and finished the year with a team-best 16 wins (16-7). He also notched a team-high 44 takedowns and ranked second on the squad with 21 escapes.
An undeclared major and competitor at 157 pounds, Dennis completed the season with a 15-5 overall record with five wins by fall. He advanced to the championship match of the 157-pound bracket at the Centennial Conference Championship and finished the season with 16 takedowns and 18 escapes.
Ersing is a politics major and he finished the 2009-2010 campaign with an 11-10 overall record at 125 pounds. Ersing placed fourth at 125 pounds in the Centennial Conference Championships and completed the year with 15 takedowns and 18 escapes. He also led the team in two-point near falls (14) and three-point near falls (15).
Washington and Lee completed the season with a 3-7 overall record and the Generals finished sixth at the Centennial Conference Championships.
