W&L Wrestling Earns Team Academic Honor
LEXINGTON, Va. -- The National Wrestling Coaches Association
(NWCA) recently announced its 2008-09 Division III Scholar
All-America Teams and Washington and Lee was among those schools
honored.
The association honored 25 schools and Washington and Lee ranked
third on the list with a team combined cumulative grade-point
average (GPA) of 3.463. It is the highest-ever ranking achieved by
the Generals.
Williams College topped the list with a 3.545, followed by
Rochester Institute of Technology (3.507), W&L (3.463),
Heidelberg (3.451) and Messiah (3.449). Ohio Northern (3.449),
Wesleyan (3.441), Lycoming (3.439), Ithaca (3.382) and NYU (3.357)
rounded out the Top 10. Johns Hopkins was the only other Centennial
Conference school to receive Scholar All-America laurels, finishing
16th with a GPA of 3.271.
Washington and Lee completed the 2008-09 season with a 4-9 overall
record. The Generals finished seventh at the 2009 Centennial
Conference Championships.
