W&L Women's Lacrosse Ranked Fourth in IWLCA Poll

GRAND LAKE, Colo. – The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) released its weekly coaches poll on Monday and Washington and Lee moved up to the fourth spot, its highest ranking in program history in the poll.

Middlebury (4-0) remained at the top of the poll with 398 points and 18 first-place votes. Gettysburg (6-0) took the second spot with 381 points and the two remaining first-place nods, while TCNJ (3-0) is ranked third with 346 markers. Washington and Lee is tied with Franklin & Marshall (4-1) for the fourth spot in the poll with 320 points.

The previous highest ranking for the program was fifth, which they achieved on April 1, 2008.

The Generals were ranked seventh in last week’s poll. W&L is currently 6-1 overall and has defeated four ranked opponents this season. The Blue and White most recently claimed an 18-3 victory over Catholic on Saturday. The Cardinals were ranked fifth at the time, but have now moved to ninth in the poll.

Senior midfielder Hayley Soutter (McLean, Va. / Langley) leads the team with 14 goals and 15 points, while sophomore midfielder Haley Tucker (Manakin-Sabot, Va. / St. Catherine’s) has totaled 10 goals and four assists for 14 points. Tucker also leads the Generals with an ODAC-best 36 draw controls.  

Washington and Lee returns to action on Wednesday, when it opens up conference play at Roanoke. The Generals will face the Maroons at 7:00 pm.
