W&L Women's Lacrosse Flies Past Randolph, 16-5

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team held Randolph to just one goal in the first half en route to claiming a 16-5 win on Tuesday at Watt Field.

W&L (1-2, 1-0) jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the 11:41 mark, as four different players found the back of the net. Junior attacker Melanie Eisele (Kennett Square, Pa./Sanford School) stopped the run and put the WildCats'on the board with a goal at the 10:52 mark (5-1) off a feed from sophomore midfielder Taylor Klevenz (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill). Randolph (1-2, 0-2 ODAC) remained scoreless for the rest of the half, while the Generals continued to increase their advantage, entering the break with a 12-1 lead.

Sophomore attacker Kirby Taylor (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) opened the scoring in the second half (13-1) with W&L's 13th goal just 3:20 into the period. The WildCats answered with three-straight goals over the next 5:40, pulling their deficit down to nine (13-4) with 21 minutes to go. That was the closest Randolph would come as the Generals scored three more times in the game to cruise to their first win of the season.

W&L held an advantage in both shots (47-13) and ground balls (27-10) for the contest.

Sophomore Cara Mulligan (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) claimed the win in net for the Blue and White, collecting six saves and four goals-against in 49:01, while first-year Sally Curtiss (Morristown, N.J./Madison) recorded one save and one goal-against in the remaining 10:59. Sophomore Samantha Fagone (Bayshore, N.Y./Bayshore) spent the entire game in the cage for the WildCats, tallying 15 saves and 16 goals-against.

For the Generals, first-year midfielder Emily Conway (Darien, Conn./Greenwich Academy) recorded a team-best five points on four goals and one assist. Junior attacker Margaret Klein (North Andover, Mass./Brooks School) and junior midfielder Meredith Lavin (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) both netted three goals. Senior attacker Ashley Barnes (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's), junior attacker Katie Hagen (Malvern, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame), junior midfielder Meade Brewster (Brookside, N.J./West Morris Mendham) and first-year attacker Carly Taglienti (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) each also scored on the day.

Klevenz and senior attacker Danielle Haney (Norwood, Pa./Interboro) led Randolph's scoring with a pair of goals apiece. Senior defender Ashley Stevens (Leicester, Mass./St. Peter-Marian) picked up four ground balls, junior midfielder Ashley Edwards (Sumerduck, Va./Liberty-Bealeton) won four draw controls and Klevenz added five draw controls.

W&L returns to the field on Saturday when it hosts No. 14 Franklin & Marshall for a 1:00 pm contest.
