W&L's Benedetti Garners All-America Honors
GRAND LAKE, Colo. – Washington and Lee senior women's lacrosse player Christina Benedetti (Derwood, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) has been selected to the 2012 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III All-America Team, announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Benedetti was chosen for Second Team All-America honors, with this being her first time garnering All-America accolades.
Earlier this season, she was also awarded First Team All-ODAC and First Team All-Chesapeake Region laurels, while being named the 2012 ODAC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Year.
As a midfielder, Benedetti started all 20 games for the Generals in 2012. She collected 20 points on 15 goals and five assists, and tallied 68 draw controls, 40 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers. During her four years at W&L, Benedetti saw action in 65 games with 54 starts, and registered 34 goals, nine assists, 141 draw controls, 110 ground balls and 39 caused turnovers.
A team captain this season, Benedetti has played on three ODAC Championship teams (2010, 2011, 2012), and has helped the Generals claim a 57-20 overall record and a 33-1 mark in conference action.
W&L ended its 2012 campaign with a 15-5 record after losing to Mary Washington, 16-8, in NCAA Division III First Round action. The Generals earned an automatic bid to the Division III NCAA Tournament after winning their 13th ODAC Championship title this spring.
