W&L Women's Lacrosse Runs Past Randolph, 22-1

LYNCHBURG, Va. –Fourteen different Generals scored at least one goal as the No. 15 Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team ran past Randolph College, 22-1, on Thursday afternoon at WildCat Stadium.

Senior midfielder Emmy Mathews (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) put the Generals (12-4, 9-0 ODAC) on the board first, scoring of an assist from sophomore attacker Elizabeth Bucklee (Princeton, N.J./Stuart County Day) for a 1-0 advantage.

The WildCats (1-14, 0-9) knotted the score at 1-1, after midfielder Ashley Edwards scored an unassisted goal with 25:40 remaining in the opening stanza.

However, W&L scored 13 unanswered goals over the remainder of the first half as it assumed a 14-1 advantage going into the break. Eight different Generals found the net during the run, led by junior attacker Maddie McKaig (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis), who notched four goals. Bucklee added two goals and an assist, and senior midfielder Kate Donnelly (Houston, Texas/St. John's) chipped in a goal and two assists.

The Generals added eight goals in the second half as they cruised to the 22-1 victory. With the win, the Generals secured the No. 1 seed for the upcoming ODAC Tournament. W&L will face either Virginia Wesleyan or Guilford in the semifinals.

Bucklee led the Generals, scoring a season-high five points off of two goals and three assists. McKaig finished with a season-high four goals, while first-year midfielder Alex Van Horn (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) added a game-high eight draw controls.

Senior Katharine Farrar (Lexington, Va./Episcopal) and sophomore Alex Hamill (Darien, Conn./Darien) split time in net, with Farrar earning the win. Both keepers recorded one save, while Farrar allowed one goal.

Edwards scored the lone goal for Randolph, while attacker Danielle Haney contributed a team-high two draw controls. Ashley Stevens played all 60:00 in net, recording eight saves.

The Generals return to action on Wednesday, hosting a ODAC Tournament semifinal game. Opponent and gametime are TBD.
