W&L Women's Lacrosse Races Past Sewanee, 21-13

SEWANEE, Ga. – The Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team raced out to a 15-4 halftime lead en route to posting a 21-13 win over Sewanee on Thursday evening.

The Tigers (0-1) held a slim one-goal advantage at the 27:50 mark of the first half before W&L senior attacker Wilton Megargel (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) jump started the offense for the 15th-ranked Generals (2-0), scoring off a feed from senior attacker Kate Speare (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven), as W&L reeled off 10-consecutive goals to assume a 10-2 lead by the 13:02 mark.

During the span, Megargel scored three of her six goals during the run, junior attacker Maddie McKaig (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) added a pair of tallys  and senior midfielder Emmy Mathews (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) chipped in a goal and an assist.

Megan Wilton put a stop to the W&L run with an unassisted tally at the 11:14 mark, but five more goals by the Generals put W&L up 15-3 before Sewanee added one more goal just before the break to make put the score at 15-4 in favor of Washington and Lee.

The Tigers scored four of the first five goals of the second period, including two more by Welton, to pull to within 16-8 with 20:47 to play. However, W&L tallied three markers over the next five minutes to push back out to a 19-8 lead with just over 15:00 to play and Sewanee never seriously threatened the rest of the way.
