W&L Athletics to Participate in National Sportsmanship Day
LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee athletics department
has announced that it will be taking part in National Sportsmanship
Day on Wednesday, April 7.
National Sportsmanship Day (NSD) was founded to promote ethics,
honesty and fair play in athletics and in society in general
through education and sport.
W&L will recognize NSD on Wednesday, April 7 at the following
sporting events:
Women’s lacrosse vs. Catholic University at Watt Field, 4:30
pm
Baseball vs. Eastern Mennonite at Cap’n Dick Smith Field,
5:00 pm
Men’s lacrosse vs. Roanoke College at Wilson Field, 7:00
pm
The Washington and Lee Department of Athletics has declared a
“Blue Out” for all athletics contests on National
Sportsmanship Day. The department is encouraging fans to attend as
many events as possible and wear as much blue as they can in
support of the Generals. In addition, the W&L community has
invited youth teams from the surrounding area to take part in the
festivities while being recognized at respective home events on the
day.
A poster contest will also take place with local elementary and
middle schools participating. All local youth are encouraged to
design a poster promoting good sportsmanship, with the winners
receiving a special W&L prize package.
Since its first celebration in 1991, National Sportsmanship Day
has been celebrated in tens of thousands of schools, not only in
the United States, but throughout the world, and by millions of
