LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee athletics department
has announced that it will be taking part in National Sportsmanship
Day on Wednesday, April 7.
National Sportsmanship Day (NSD) was founded to promote ethics, honesty and fair play in athletics and in society in general through education and sport.
W&L will recognize NSD on Wednesday, April 7 at the following sporting events:

The Washington and Lee Department of Athletics has declared a “Blue Out” for all athletics contests on National Sportsmanship Day. The department is encouraging fans to attend as many events as possible and wear as much blue as they can in support of the Generals. In addition, the W&L community has invited youth teams from the surrounding area to take part in the festivities while being recognized at respective home events on the day.
A poster contest will also take place with local elementary and middle schools participating. All local youth are encouraged to design a poster promoting good sportsmanship, with the winners receiving a special W&L prize package.
Since its first celebration in 1991, National Sportsmanship Day has been celebrated in tens of thousands of schools, not only in the United States, but throughout the world, and by millions of students, teachers, coaches and parents.
