Four Generals Named to IWLCA All-Region Teams

WEST HYANNISPORT, Mass. -- The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced its Division III women's lacrosse All-Chesapeake Region teams on Thursday and Washington and Lee had four players recognized.

Senior midfielder Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) and sophomore midfielder Emmy Mathews (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) were tabbed to the first team, while senior midfielder Colleen Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) and junior attacker Britten Mathews (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) garnered second-team laurels.

A two-time first team honoree, Robinson also collected First Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) accolades for the second-straight year. She played in 17 contests and was third on the team in scoring with 41 points on 22 goals and a team-best 19 assists. Additionally, she secured a team-best 39 draw controls, scooped up a second-best 42 ground balls and caused a second-best 18 turnovers. Robinson finished fourth on the W&L career scoring list with 205 career points on 104 goals and 101 assists. Her 101 assists also rank second on the all-time list.

Emmy Mathews was a First Team All-ODAC selection and started 17 of a possible 18 games this spring. She led the team in scoring with 48 points on a team-best 41 goals and seven assists. Mathews' 41 goals are tied for 10th all-time at W&L for season goals. Additionally, she collected 31 ground balls, secured 29 draw controls and registered 17 caused turnovers.

A first team honoree a season ago, Evans also collected Second Team All-ODAC laurels this year after starting 17 games. She recorded 31 points on 25 goals and six assists and secured a second-best 34 draw controls. In her three seasons at W&L after transferring from Division I Bucknell, Evans started 54 games and registered 134 points on 96 goals and 38 assists.

A two-time Second Team All-Region and a two-time First Team All-ODAC pick, Britten Mathews started all 18 games this season. She finished second on the team in scoring with 43 points (30 g, 13 a) and recorded 20 ground balls. Mathews will enter her senior year with 138 points on 90 goals and 48 assists. Her 48 assists already rank ninth all-time at W&L and with just four more points and 16 goals, she can rank in W&L's Top 10 in both of those categories as well.

Washington and Lee completed the 2009 season with a 13-5 overall record and a 7-1 conference mark. The second-seeded Generals fell to top-seeded Roanoke, 11-9, in the ODAC championship game.
