HOUSTON, Texas – The Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) announced its 2017 Division III awards at the WGCA Division III Awards Banquet held at the championship site in Houston, Texas.
Washington and Lee junior Liza Freed (Alexandria, Va. / St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) was among those honored, being named to the All-East Region team and receiving First Team All-America laurels. An Honorable Mention All-America honoree each of her first two seasons, Freed was one of six golfers nationwide named to the first team.
One of six individual golfers selected to participate in the 2017 NCAA Division III Championship, Freed entered championship competition ranked seventh in Division III and she carried a 75.43 stroke average into the National Championship.
Freed tallied five Top 10 finishes during the season and compiled a 684-8 comparative record against the fields that she faced in the six tournaments that she played heading into NCAA's.
A two-time First Team All-ODAC selection and three-time All-East Region honoree, Freed has finished in a tie for 18th overall at both the 2015 and 2016 NCAA Division III Championship events. She is currently tied for 46th at this year's championship with a two-day total of 84-78—162 (+18). Her Thursday round at NCAA's will begin at 1:45 pm central time.
