W&L's Freed Completes First Round at NCAA Women's Golf Championship

HOUSTON, Texas – Washington and Lee junior Liza Freed (Alexandria, Va. / St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) has completed Tuesday's first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship at Bay Oaks Country Club tied for 65th-place out of 116 competitors.

Freed, who is returning from an injury that forced her to miss the ODAC Championship, shot an opening round score of 84 (+12) on the Par 72 course.  She started off on the back nine and had a rocky start, finishing +9 over the first nine holes.  However, she recovered over her final nine holes to shoot +3 on the front nine and birdied two of the final three holes.

Phoebe Mattana of Williams is the individual leader after the opening round with a -3 score of 69.  Third-ranked Rhodes leads the team portion of the event with a +13 score of 301.

Action continues on Wednesday with the second round from Bay Oaks.  Freed will tee off at 9:25 am central time.
