NELLYSFORD, Va. – The 17th-ranked Washington and Lee women's golf team finished in second-place at the 2017 ODAC Championship held at the Wintergreen Resort on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.
Bridgewater claimed its second consecutive league crown, shooting a 328-332-323—983 (+119) to beat the field by 50 strokes. W&L carded a 344-350-339—1033 (+169) to finish second, while Randolph-Macon was third with a 347-374-356—1077 (+213). Shenandoah rounded out the team placings in fourth with a 399-397-411—1207 (+343).
Bridgewater's Christina Herbert won her second individual title in three seasons by notching a +13 score of 72-78-79—229 (+13). W&L junior Mary-Frances Hall (State Road, N.C. / Elkin) picked up one stroke on Herbert on Tuesday, finishing second with a +19 score of 79-78-78—235.
Junior Dana Droz (Lancaster, Pa. / Veritas Academy) finished in eighth-place out of 30 golfers with an 88-87-86—261 (+45), while first-years Caroline Buckley (Duxbury, Mass. / Notre Dame Academy) and Griffin Foultz (San Antonio, Texas / St. Mary's Hall) tied for 12th overall. Buckley posted a three-day total of 90-90-90—270 (+54) and Foultz shot 90-95-85—270 (+54).
Senior Katelyn Degnan (Saint Petersburg, Fla. / Canterbury School) rounded out the Generals in the field with a +61 score of 87-97-93—277 (+61) that ranked 15th overall.
Washington and Lee will now wait to see if any individuals are selected to the NCAA Division III Championship field that will be announced on Monday. Senior Liza Freed (Alexandria, Va. / St. Stephen's & St. Agnes), who did not play in the ODAC Championship due to an injury, is currently ranked seventh nationally, while Hall is ranked 35th.
The NCAA Championship will be held on May 9-12 at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas.
