JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The 19th-ranked Washington and Lee women's golf team carded the low round of the day on Sunday to finish eighth out of 23 teams at the Jekyll Island Invitational held at the Indian Mound Golf Club.
The Generals posted a 314 in the final round to finish at 322-331-314—967 (+103). NYU, ranked 13th in Division III, bested the field consisting of 15 Top 50 programs with a +70 score of 318-298-318—934. The Violets finished nine shots ahead of fourth-ranked Rhodes, who posted 319-306-318—943 (+79).
Haubenstock Samantha of Washington (Mo.), Sydney Weaver of Berry and Kelly Ransom of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps tied for individual medalist honors with a three-day score of 230 (+14).
The top General in the field was first-year Griffin Foultz (San Antonio, Texas / St. Mary's Hall), who tied for 16th out of 120 golfers with an 80-80-76—236 (+20). Her 76 on Sunday was a season-low total.
Juniors Liza Freed (Alexandria, Va. / St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) and Mary-Frances Hall (State Road, N.C. / Elkin) both tied for 28th overall. Freed posted a 78-82-81—241 (+25) and Hall registered a score of 80-83-78—241 (+25).
Junior Dana Droz (Lancaster, Pa. / Veritas Academy) tied for 63rd with an 88-86-79—253 (+37), while first-year Caroline Buckley (Duxbury, Mass. / Notre Dame Academy) carded an 84-87-85—256 (+40) that tied for 72nd overall.
Washington and Lee will return to action on April 3-4 when it takes part in the Greensboro College Spring Invitational held at the Bryan Park Players Course.
