W&L Women's Golf Tied for Seventh After Day One at Jekyll Island Invitational

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The 19th-ranked Washington and Lee women's golf team is tied for seventh out of 23 teams after the first round at the Jekyll Island Invitational on Friday.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, ranked 12th, leads the field that features 11 of the Top 27 teams in Division III.  The Staggs shot 314 (+26) and are two strokes ahead of 21st-ranked Washington University of St. Louis, which posted a 316 (+28).  W&L carded a 322 (+34) and is tied with 35th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan for seventh.

Oglethorpe's Hayley Willman fired a 73 (+1) and is the individual leader by two strokes.  W&L junior Liza Freed (Alexandria, Va. / St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) is tied for 12th out of the 120 golfers in the tournament with a +6 score of 78.

Junior Mary-Frances Hall (State Road, N.C. / Elkin) and first-year Griffin Foultz (San Antonio, Texas / St. Mary's Hall) each posted an 80 (+8) and are both tied for 22nd overall.  First-year Caroline Buckley (Duxbury, Mass. / Notre Dame Academy) shot an 84 (+12) and is tied for 63rd, while junior Dana Droz (Lancaster, Pa. / Veritas Academy) posted an 88 (+16) that is tied for 87th. 

Washington and Lee will return to action on Saturday with its second round that will begin at 8:45 am.
