PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Junior Liza Freed (Alexandria, Va. / St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) placed third overall to help lead the 17th-ranked Washington and Lee women's golf team to a sixth-place finish out of 16 teams at the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate hosted by Berry College at the Lake View Course on Monday and Tuesday.
Fourth-ranked Rhodes College took the team title from a field that included eight of the Top 27 teams in Division III with a +42 score of 314-304—618. Sixth-ranked Berry was second with a 308-317—625 (+49), while second-ranked Wittenberg was third with a 306-323—629 (+53). Seventh-ranked Methodist was fourth (322-311—633, +57), 20th-ranked Huntingdon was fifth (326-314—640, +64) and W&L was sixth with a 321-324—645 (+69).
Methodist's Johnna Beehner and Berry's Sydney Weaver both tied for individual medalist honors at +2. Beehner carded 76-70—146 and Weaver shot 72-74—146. Freed was just three strokes back, alone in third-place out of 90 competitors with a 75-74—149 (+5).
Junior Mary-Frances Hall (State Road, N.C. / Elkin) tied for 16th with a 76-82—158 (+14), while first-year Griffin Foultz (San Antonio, Texas / St. Mary's Hall) tied for 36th with a +24 score of 85-83—168.
First-year Caroline Buckley (Duxbury, Mass. / Notre Dame Academy) shot 94-85—179 (+35) to tie for 61st and junior Dana Droz (Lancaster, Pa. / Veritas Academy) posted an 85-95—180 (+36) to tie for 63rd overall.
Washington and Lee will return to action on March 17-19 when it takes part in the Jekyll Island Invitational held at the Jekyll Island Golf Club in Jekyll Island, Ga.
