SANDESTIN, Fla. – Junior Liza Freed (Alexandria, Va. / St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) finished second out of 92 golfers in leading the Washington and Lee women's golf team to an eighth-place finish on Tuesday at the Golfweek Fall Invitational held at the Baytowne Golf Club.
Freed shot a 54-hole score of 75-70-75—220 (+4) and finished five strokes behind Wittenberg's Jane Hopkinson-Wood, who posted a -1 score of 72-70-73—215 to take home medalist honors.
Wittenberg also claimed the team title, placing 10 strokes ahead of Methodist, who finished second. The Tigers carded a 316-302-309—927 (+63), while the Monarchs shot 316-303-318—937 (+73). W&L shot a 325-314-311—950 (+86) to place eighth overall out of the 18 teams participating in the event.
Junior Mary-Frances Hall (State Road, N.C. / Elkin) finished in 20th-place with a +20 score of 81-78-77—236. First-year Griffin Foultz (San Antonio, Texas / St. Mary's Hall) tied for 27th with an 81-80-79—240 (+24), while classmate Caroline Buckley (Duxbury, Mass. / Notre Dame Academy) tied for 74th with an 89-88-80—257 (+41). Junior Dana Droz (Lancaster, Pa. / Veritas Academy) notched an 88-86-85—259 (+43) to place 76th overall.
Washington and Lee has now completed the fall portion of its schedule and will return to action this spring.
