SANDESTIN, Fla. – The Washington and Lee women's golf team sits in eighth-place out of 18 teams after the first round at the Golfweek Fall Invitational held at the Baytowne Golf Club on Sunday.
Mary-Hardin Baylor is the top team after day one with a +26 score of 314. Methodist and Wittenberg are tied for second, as each carded a 316 (+28). The Generals notched a 325 (+37) and are just five strokes back of a four-way tie for fourth-place between Texas-Tyler, Rhodes, Berry and Huntingdon.
Wittenberg's Jane Hopkinson-Wood shot an even-par 72 on Sunday and is the top individual, two strokes ahead of teammate Macy Hubbard and Tori Ramirez of Berry. W&L junior Liza Freed (Alexandria, Va. / St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) is in a three-way tie for fourth overall after posting a 75 (+3).
Junior Mary-Frances Hall (State Road, N.C. / Elkin) and first-year Griffin Foultz (San Antonio, Texas / St. Mary's Hall) both shot 81 and are tied for 24th out of the 92 individuals at the event, and junior Dana Droz (Lancaster, Pa. / Veritas Academy) is tied for 77th with an 88. First-year Caroline Buckley (Duxbury, Mass. / Notre Dame Academy) is one stroke behind in a tie for 78th with an 89.
Action continues on Monday with the second of three rounds from Baytowne.
