W&L Women's Golf Sits in Second After Day One at the Generals Invitational

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's golf team posted an opening round 315 (+27) and ranks second out of 11 teams at the Generals Invitational hosted by W&L at the Lexington Golf & Country Club on Monday.

Wittenberg carded a 311 (+23) in Monday's opening round and leads the Generals by four strokes.  Methodist is in third-place with a 317 (+29).

Jane Hopkinson-Wood of Wittenberg and Christina Herbert of Bridgewater hold the individual lead after day one, as each carded an even-par score of 72.

W&L juniors Liza Freed (Alexandria, Va. / St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) and Mary-Frances Hall (State Road, N.C. / Elkin) are tied with two others in fourth-place with a +3 score of 75.  First-year Griffin Foultz (San Antonio, Texas / St. Mary's Hall) fired a 78 (+6) and is tied for 11th out of 70 competitors, while junior Dana Droz (Lancaster, Pa. / Veritas Academy) posted an 87 (+15) and is tied for 33rd overall.

First-year Caroline Buckley (Duxbury, Mass. / Notre Dame Academy) shot 88 and is tied for 36th, and senior Katelyn Degnan (Saint Petersburg, Fla. / Canterbury School) is tied for 54th overall while playing as an individual.  She posted a score of 95.

Action continues on Tuesday morning at 9:00 am with the final round of the Generals Invitational.
