JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The 19th-ranked Washington and Lee women's golf team carded a 335 (+47) and is tied for 15th out of 23 teams after the first day of competition at the Jekyll Island Collegiate on Friday.
Whitman College, ranked 22nd in Division III, shot a +11 score of 299 to lead the event by two strokes over seventh-ranked Sewanee, who shot a 301. Sewanee's Emily Javadi leads the individual portion of the event with a -1 score of 71.
Sophomore Liza Freed (Alexandria, Va. / St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) is the top General after day one, carding a 75 (+3) that is tied for 11th out of 120 total golfers. Sophomore Mary-Frances Hall (State Road, N.C. / Elkin) shot 80 and is tied for 38th, while sophomores Caroline Holloway (Gainesville, Fla. / Oak Hall) and Dana Droz (Lancaster, Pa. / Veritas Academy) both carded a 90 and are tied for 91st overall. Senior Sara Moir (Roanoke, Va. / Hidden Valley) shot 93 and is tied for 105th overall.
Action continues on Saturday with the second of three rounds from Jeykll Island.
