LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee women's golf team shot a 308 on Tuesday to claim the championship of the Generals' Invitational held at the Lexington Golf & Country Club.
The Generals trailed Bridgewater by three strokes heading into the final round, but were nine strokes better than the Eagles on Tuesday to win the team title for the second straight year. W&L finished with a 317-308—625 (+49) to defeat BC by six strokes. The Eagles took second with a 314-317—631 (+55). Carnegie Mellon finished third (344-331—675), followed by Methodist (340-337—677), Stevenson (363-352—715), Marymount (416-390—801) and Hollins (504-489—993).
Bridgewater's Christina Herbert finished as the individual medalist, carding a 76-75—151 (+7). Washington and Lee sophomore Liza Freed (Alexandria, Va. / St. Stephen's & St. Agnes) was the runner-up, finishing one stroke behind Herbert with a 78-74—152 (+8).
Sophomore Dana Droz (Lancaster, Pa. / Veritas Academy) tied for 11th overall with an 82-83—165 (+21) and senior Sara Moir (Roanoke, Va. / Hidden Valley) notched a 98-83—181 (+37) to tie for 28th out of 47 golfers.
Junior Katelyn Degnan (Saint Petersburg, Fla. / Canterbury School) finished in a tie for 36th while playing as an individual. She shot 99-105—204 (+60).
Washington and Lee returns to action on Sunday when it plays in the Golfweek Division III Invitational at the Baytowne Golf Club in Sandestin, Fla.
